Meet the friendly staff at Hometown Veterinary Hospital!
Dr. Williams joined the Hometown family in 2013 and purchased the practice in 2015. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management from The Ohio State University in 2005 and her Doctor in Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 2009. Before Dr. Williams was hired by Dr. Amy Keith Renshaw in 2013, she spent 2 years working in central Pennsylvania in a mixed animal practice and 1 year in Ohio practicing emergency medicine. Dr. Williams says, “The staff and clients are wonderful and friendly at Hometown. The staff provides excellent care for the patients. It is a family friendly environment.” She and her husband, Ray, have 2 young sons. The also have 2 dogs, Lucy and Drake who enjoy playing with the family’s cats; Stewie, and Bubba Sprinkles. In her spare time, Dr. Williams enjoys swimming, triathlons and spending time with family.
Dr. Ivanna Hummel-Bodak graduated magna cum laude from Allegheny College with a B.S. in biology in 1998 and from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Before coming to Hometown Veterinary Hospital, she has traveled and worked in clinics in both Pennsylvania and Arizona. Her main goals are to provide the best patient care available and foster the human-animal bond while keeping a personalized experience at the center of every appointment. She has special interests in internal medicine, dermatology, and ophthalmology and is working towards the American Association of Feline Practitioner's feline friendly commendation. She and her husband Michael have a 'gentleman's farm' where they have a brood of three dogs, five cats, and nine chickens. This takes up a great deal of her free time, but she also tries to find time for gardening and preserving in the summer and brewing a variety of beers in the winter.
Dr. Balas graduated from Allegheny College and received her Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been practicing for almost 8 years, with the last 5 being at Camboro Veterinary Hospital in Edinboro, PA. She grew up on a dairy farm outside Titusville, PA. Dr. Michelle and her husband, Ben, have two girls Chelsey and Brooke. They raise Holstein heifers, chickens, and guinea hens! They also have 2 Australian Shepherds, Raelyn and Riley. In her free time, she enjoys tap dancing, kayaking, reading, and listening to podcasts.
Jamie, our Practice Manager, plays an important part of all aspects of the practice. Jamie began her career at Hometown in 2009 as a receptionist after graduating from Penn State, the Behrend College with a major in Business Management and a minor in Marketing. She was promoted to Practice Manager in 2011. Jamie and her husband, Nick, are from North East and they continue to reside here with their sons; Collin and Campbell, daughter; Ava, and goldendoodle; Nora. Jamie says, “I love that our staff is like a family. We are a close-knit group and that makes coming to work enjoyable. I also like that I get to work on the business side of things, but still get to interact with our clients and their pets.” On her time away from work, Jamie enjoys spending time with her family, running, and crafting.
Jeana has been here since Hometown’s doors opened in 2008. Jeana says, “Hometown is my home away from home. I love the staff and clients. They are like family to me.” Jeana and her husband, Patrick, enjoy attending comic conventions and collecting super hero memorabilia. Jeana enjoys baking and spending quality time with her children, Miah and Donovan. Her family enjoys the company of Steve, the cat, Hammy their rescued pit bull mix, Howard a beagle/min-pin mix and their 30 year old turtles. Jeana attended Great Lakes Institute of Technology. As well as being a part of the veterinary technician team, she is also a part of our front desk team.
Roxanne is a part of our veterinary technician team. After Roxanne recused her husky, Niko, and spent many hours at the vet hospital with him, she returned to school to become a veterinary assistant. Roxanne received her education at Great Lakes Institute of Technology and has been with us since 2009. Roxanne says, “The staff is awesome and we all work well together. Spending the days helping and caring for the pets is the best part.” She and her husband, Rob, have a daughter, Amanda, and 4 dogs and many, many rescue cats. In her spare time, Roxanne enjoys spoiling her grandchildren, gardening, spending time with her family and raising her chickens.
Samantha joined our team in 2018. She obtained a veterinary assistant certificate from Great Lakes Institute of Technology, and is part of our reception team! Sam says that she loves the constant guess of what will come in next and waiting to treat/help everyone. Sam and Mike have 2 children, born and raised in Ripley, NY - a daughter, Raylyn and a son, Dawson. They also have 4 cats; Skyy, Everest, Rubble, and Runt and 3 dogs; a mastiff, Stella; a great dane, Delilah, and a great dane mix, Punk.
Amie started out shadowing on the weekends while she was in high school and officially jumped on board with us in 2018! She is currently enrolled in the nursing program at Mercyhurst. Amie says her favorite part about working at Hometown is 'my amazing, helpful coworkers, and also listening to Dr. Ivy's 'funny' jokes!' She has a cat named Pumbaa, and 3 dogs; 2 mixed breeds Tatertot and Disney and an Old English Bulldog, Bella. In her spare time, Amie loves kayaking, hiking and watching Netflix.
Laura joined our front desk team in 2020. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Penn State. She likes that Hometown Vet is a great work environment and that the staff feels like family. Laura and her husband, Jonathan live in North East with their boxer mix; Brother, Great Pyrenees; Sekera, and their 2 tuxedo kitties Jemma and Leo. In her spare time, Laura enjoys reading, watching tv/movies with her husband, and trying out different ethnic cuisines.
Alexandrea joined our team in 2020. She studied early childhood education at Edinboro University and currently she is studying to be a veterinary technician at Penn Foster. Alex says, “My favorite part about working at Hometown Vet is the staff is like family and make it a pleasant work experience.” She enjoys fishing, kayaking, hiking and hanging out with her family. Alex and her husband, Corwin, have 5 cats; Abbie, Black Jack, Hercules, Luna and Boots; a lab mix; Williow, a turtle; Squirt, and a Turkey; Gravy!
Ashley is part of our technician team. She is a Veterinary Technician and graduated from Great Lakes Institute of Technology in 2015. Ashley says 'what I like best about working at Hometown Vet is that it is such an amazing work family, we all love to help animals and it's such an amazing work environment!' Ashley and her husband, Matt, have a dearly loved cat named Badger. When she's not working, she likes to hang out with friends and family. She also enjoys being outside, and has recently found a love for fitness and working out!
