Making a Safe Splash!

Many dogs really enjoy swimming during the summer, and playing in the water can be so much fun for you and your furry companion, but before going out for a swim or a boat ride check out our tips on how to keep things safe!
-Never leave pets unsupervised around a pool.
-Make sure your dog knows how to swim. The younger they are when you start introducing them to swimming, the better. Keep swimming lessons positive, and stress free for your pet by gradually introducing them to water.
-Have your dog wear flotation devices when on boats, and never tie your dog's life jacket to the boat.
-If swimming in a pool, be sure to rinse your dog off after their swim to remove any chlorine from their fur. Try to keep your dog from drinking pool water, the chlorine and other chemicals can cause stomach upset if ingested.
-When taking your pet to the beach, always check to see if there are beach warnings for swimming areas-if the water is not safe for you to swim, then it is not safe for your pets either!
-If swimming in the ocean, be sure to rinse your dog's fur afterward,to remove any salt from the water.
-When swimming in a lake, ocean, or river keep an eye out for riptides, large waves, and strong currents. If the water looks too rough or fast-moving do not let your dog go swimming in those areas.
